AGGRAVATED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
- Dismissed at the preliminary hearing – Aggravated Domestic Violence, a class 5 felony. Maricopa County Superior Court.
CARJACKING
- Arizona law does not have a criminal law called "carjacking." Offenses that the press call "carjacking" are typically prosecuted as armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, theft of means of transportation or any combination of some or all four charges. See armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, or theft of means of transportation for examples of some successful results in carjacking type cases.
CHILD ABUSE
- Dismissed – Child Abuse, a class 2 felony and dangerous crime against children. Defendant was facing 10 years to 24 years flat time and mandatory prison
if defendant lost at trial. Defense investigation revealed that the doctor who told police that this was child abuse was only 2 weeks out of medical school. Further
defense investigation revealed that the injuries to the child for pancreatitis were caused by either a virus or most likely a medication that the child was taking
which is known to cause pancreatitis. Child abuse was ruled out as contrary to the physical evidence. Maricopa County Superior Court.
- Not guilty – Child Abuse, a class 4 felony. Defendant accused of intentionally causing injury (bruising) to his step-daughter. The jury agreed that the defendant
was only disciplining the girl. Maricopa County Superior Court.
CHOP SHOP
- Dismissed a few days prior to trial– Conducting a Chop Shop, a class 4 felony and 2 counts Theft, class 3 felonies. Maricopa County Superior Court.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE

- Not guilty – Criminal Damage, a class 2 misdemeanor – trial by judge. Phoenix Municipal Court.
- Dismissed day of trial – Criminal Damage, a class 2 misdemeanor. Phoenix Municipal Court.
- Dismissed – Criminal Damage, a class 2 misdemeanor. Maricopa County Superior Court.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS
- Dismissed day of trial – Criminal Trespass, a class 3 misdemeanor. Phoenix Municipal Court.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
- Dismissed – Disorderly Conduct, a class 1 misdemeanor. The state recognized that dismissal was appropriate in light of the defendant's mental health issues. Phoenix Municipal Court.
DRUGS (Marijuana, Heroin, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Ecstasy, Mushrooms, etc.)
- Dismissed just prior to trial – Possession of Narcotic Drugs (Cocaine), a class 4 felony. Defense investigation revealed major inconsistencies with the police officers'
version of events. Maricopa County Superior Court.
- Dismissed – Possession of Narcotic Drugs (Heroin), a class 4 felony. State had to dismiss after the judge granted defense motion to suppress the heroin as obtained in an
illegal search in violation of the 4th Amendment. La Paz County Superior Court.
ENDANGERMENT
- Dismissed day of trial – Endangerment (DV), a class 1 misdemeanor and Criminal Damage (DV), a class 2 misdemeanor. Phoenix Municipal Court.
FALSE, INCOMPLETE, OR MISLEADING INSURANCE CLAIM
- Dismissed prior to trial - False insurance claim, a class 6 felony. Defense investigation revealed that the defendant had no involvement in the crime. Maricopa County Superior Court.
HINDERING PROSECUTION
- Not guilty – Hindering Prosecution, a class 5 felony – Jury trial. Maricopa County Superior Court.
HOME INVASION
Arizona law does not have a criminal law called "home invasion." Offenses that the press typically calls a "home invasion" are usually charged as kidnapping, burglary, armed robbery, aggravated assault or
any combination of some or all four charges. See Kidnapping, Burglary, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Assault for examples of home invasion cases.
INTERFERING WITH JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS ("IJP")
- Not guilty – Interfering with judicial proceedings, a class 1 misdemeanor – trial to the judge. West Phoenix Justice Court.
PERJURY
- Defendant pled to misdemeanor theft. Defendant charged with Perjury, a class 4 felony and Theft, a class 6 felony. Negotiated a deal where the defendant did not have to
risk a felony conviction. Maricopa County Superior Court.
POSSESSION OF EQUIPMENT OR CHEMICALS FOR DRUG MANUFACTURING
- Dismissed - Possession Of Equipment Or Chemicals For Drug Manufacturing (Methamphetamines), a class 3 felony. Maricopa County Superior Court.
PROMOTING PRISON CONTRABAND
- Dismissed - Promoting Prison Contraband, a class 5 felony. Maricopa County Superior Court.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE (sometimes called TRUANCY)
- Not guilty – bench trial – judge directed a verdict of acquittal at the rest of the state's case. Defendant was accused of not making sure that her son did not skip school after
leaving the house for school. Phoenix Municipal Court.
UNLAWFUL DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM
- Dismissed – Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, a class 6 dangerous felony and Misconduct Weapons, a class 4 felony. Dismissed at the preliminary hearing. Maricopa County Superior Court.
